Master John Bowersox

Master John Bowersox began his Martial Arts career at the age of 9, beginning to study Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu under Jeff Bostic. He began studying American Freestyle Karate with Master David Clements at the age of 23. In 2003, he took over the Staunton school from Master Clements and has been operating it since. Master Bowersox currently holds a 6th degree Black Belt in American Freestyle and a 3rd degree in Shotokan Karate.

Over the past 20 years, Master Bowersox has developed a program encouraging the growth of not only martial artists, but also positive characteristics in students and families.

  • Brooke Arehart, Chief Instructor

    Brooke Arehart

    CHIEF INSTRUCTOR

    Ms. Arehart began studying karate in 2008 under Master David Clements. She earned her Black Belt at 17 and began working as an instructor. She holds a Third Degree Black Belt and is the primary instructor for the Beginner Program.

  • Tyler Johnson, Instructor

    Tyler Johnson

    INSTRUCTOR

    Mr. Johnson first started karate at age 13 and began working for Master Bowersox at the age of 17. He teaches Intermediate, Advanced, and Women’s Kickboxing. Mr. Johnson is working towards his Third Degree.

  • Gabriel Nevarez, Instructor

    Gabriel Nevarez

    INSTRUCTOR

    Mr. Nevarez began studying karate with Master Bowersox at the age of 10. He began teaching at 15 and earned his Instructor top in June. He is currently studying for his Third Degree Black Belt in American Freestyle.

  • Karen Early, Program Director

    Karen Early

    PROGRAM DIRECTOR

    Ms. Early earned her 1st Degree Black Belt in American Freestyle Karate in 2021. She teaches the Lil’ Dragons Program and is studying for her 2nd Degree.
